An Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary,
Sherwood Forest is managed by Sherwood Forest Homeowners Association, and is a residential community comprised of 200 homes that is situated on one thousand forested acres in southern Transylvania County, North Carolina. The table below outlines all the community amenities but worth highlighting is the 28 miles of hiking trails on over 300 acres of green space, 5 lakes, a junior Olympic heated swimming pool, tennis and a Par 3 18 hole golf course open to the public.
The Sherwood Forest Community and the Sherwood Forest Golf Course are both members of the Audubon cooperative sanctuary. The Program as certified by Audubon International is unique in our region and is a source of pride among members of our community.
The ACSP certification means that Sherwood Forest has developed and is implementing an environmental management program with the goal of conserving natural resources for the benefit of biodiversity—native animals, plants, and other living things—and the quality of life of our residents.
Residents place a high priority on maintaining the natural environment and preserving native species of both plants and animals. In Sherwood Forest, we strive to live in harmony with our natural surroundings by maintaining a sustainable balance between nature and the human presence. As such, lots in Sherwood Forest are left wooded and homes are designed to blend into the forest with minimal intrusion on the environment.
Other activities available to Sherwood Forest members include: Instant Culture Get-Togethers, Memoirs Group, Arts and crafts Group, Women’s Workshop, Wood Cutters, Trail Maintenance, and the Native Plant Committee
